Micheal jackson Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Micheal jackson - Essay Example Some of his commonly known music videos include Beat It, Thriller, Scream, Black or White and Billie Jean which were considered to be advocating for racial integration in the American society (Fisher, 23). He emerged with a number of dance moves such as the robot and moonwalk to which people knew him best and became part of his thrilling performance whenever he was on stage. The curtain finally went down in his life in June 25, 2009 in Holmby Hills, Los Angeles, California, in the United States aged fifty when he died. The life as well as the music career of Michael Jackson is filled with numerous remarkable events and he made a great contribution to the music industry that has long lived beyond his death. He is therefore worth writing about owing to the fact that very few music artistic have achieved what Michael was able to achieve in his entire music career. Many people all over the world have something to remember about this popular pop artist who inspired them in life. He had a great influence on other genre of music such as hip hop, post-disco, contemporary R&B, pop, and rock by being the role model to the artists who performed such genres (Danesi,57). Despite the fact that pop culture has been witnessed in a number of departments and areas of life, music has registered the most remarkable application of this culture and it is mainly attributable to the King of Pop; Michael Jackson. His biography clearly demonstrated the formation as well as the establishment of this form of culture that has become a way of life in various parts of the world to date. In June 1975, the Jackson 5 made a historic signing with Epic Records which is a subsidiary of CBS Records. The move necessitated a change in their name from The Jackson 5 to The Jacksons. It was at that time that another Jackson known as Randy formally joined the band. The Jacksons continued to tour internationally, and released six more albums

Researchers and laboratories Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words
Researchers and laboratories - Essay Example Overall, there is an expectation from this key customer group that there be a cost effective and guaranteed delivery mechanism in the postal services. Time is critical for them. But they are more particular about the time of delivery being committed rather than just being fast. In short, a fast, reliable and economical delivery mechanism is what is expected out of the postal services from this key customer group. The courier service has been picked up as the business for consideration. This would work more like the postal services and would make use of the airline industry which would also benefit by introducing such a service. With the changing and dynamic scenario of currency exchange rates and international travel playing a major role in the airline industry, the courier or postal services will bring in a semblance of stability to the industry. Also, there are gaps in the airline industry which could make operation of the postal services profitable. Based on all these conditions, the airline industry is chosen to support the postal services that are planned for the purpose. In order to evaluate the possible impact of such a postal service on the using customers and the major or key customers and what they look for in this business, a survey is planned. The following groups of people are considered key customers for the business: 1. Researchers and two, Laboratories. These industries requi re delivery of a message or information from the researcher to the lab and vice versa swiftly as well as without any ambiguity. Therefore, the possibility that these people would become a key customer is high. Aims and Objectives The aim of this work is to ensure that an appropriate survey is conducted on a key customer group resulting in gathering relevant information that will help the management to make appropriate decision. The objectives of this project are to conduct a market research and survey on the usefulness and acceptability of a postal service. In order to achieve both the aim and the objectives, it is important that an appropriate target or key customer group is identified. Secondly, a proper questionnaire is also designed for the purpose of conducting a survey. In line with this need, the following jobs are subsequently done. Key Customer Group Many of the schools and colleges have research fellows working under their stewardship. In addition, there are also researchers in private and public labs who are also on the job of research. It will be impossible for the researchers to share their work with their other colleagues without having appropriate communication methodology. Though with the large scale increase in technology, namely internet and email, it is still found that there is nothing that would equal printed paper sharing and the ease with which one can share the printed paper. Therefore, it is imperative that this group of people make use of the postal services more than any other group of people and it would be important for the postal servic

Our Moral Responsibility to Provide Monetary Aid to Pakistani Villagers Essay Example for Free
Our Moral Responsibility to Provide Monetary Aid to Pakistani Villagers Essay In this essay, I will argue that the theory of Utilitarianism presents resilient, compelling arguments that exemplifies why we have a moral obligation to donate money to help the Pakistani villagers affected by recent floods. Though the argument put forth by Ethical Egoists in favor of donating money to the Pakistanis is convincing, it lacks the quantitative validation that Utilitarianism provides. The Perspective of an Ethical Egoist Ethical Egoism is a consequentialist moral theory that says each person ought to pursue his or her own self-interest exclusively (EMP 69). A personââ¬â¢s only moral duty is to do what is best for him or herself, and he or she helps others only if the act [of helping] benefits the individual in some way (EMP 63). On the surface, it appears that it is not in a personââ¬â¢s best self-interests to donate money to help villagers in Pakistan. The giver experiences monetary loss and the diminution of personal financial wealth, and expends time, energy, and effort in the donation-transaction process. He or she receives neither public acknowledgement nor donor recognition. There are, however, intangible benefits that the giver may reap as a result of his or her deed, such as the satisfaction that he or she receives from giving monetary aid to the Pakistanis or the happiness that he or she experiences for acting in accordance with his or her values. It is in the giverââ¬â¢s self-interest and, therefore, his or her moral duty to give monetary aid to those plagued by the Pakistan floods. The facts that an Ethical Egoist would consider to be important are the consequences to him or herself because Ethical Egoism is a consequentialist moral theory that revolves around the self. Consequentialism contends that the right thing to do is determined by the consequences brought about from it (Class Notes, 10/05/2010). In this case, the morally relevant facts that the Ethical Egoist is primarily concerned with are the intangible benefits and advantages that he or she would receive from giving. The Ethical Egoist would also consider the actual and implicit costs of giving aid, as they are consequences brought about from helping the Pakistani villagers. The argument put forth by Ethical Egoism is good because it is compatible with commonsense morality. To reiterate, Ethical Egoism says that ââ¬Å"all duties are ultimately derived from the one fundamental principle of self-interestâ⬠(EMP 73). According to Hobbes, this theory leads to the Golden Rule, which states that ââ¬Å"we should ââ¬Ëdo unto othersââ¬â¢ because if we do, others will be more likely to ââ¬Ëdo unto usââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ (EMP 74). In this case, if we do not give to others, other people will not give to us. Thus, it is to our advantage to give to others. The Utilitarian Argument Classical, or Act, Utilitarianism maintains that the morally right act is the one that yields maximum happiness for all sentient beings impartially. Utilitarianism requires us to consider the general welfare of society and the interests of other people. Giving money to help the villagers in Pakistan generates positive consequences and diminishes the negative effects of the floods. Specifically, donations for disaster relief results in the availability of medicines to treat sicknesses, the provision and distribution of cooked meals, hygiene kits, and clothing, and the reconstruction and restoration of homes and schools. In short, giving money relieves great suffering of the flood-affected Pakistanis, enhances the balance of happiness over misery, and endorses the maximum and greater good of society. Therefore, the morally right thing to do is to donate money to help the Pakistani villagers. Similar to Ethical Egoism, Utilitarianism is a consequentialist moral theory, though this theory is concerned with the greater good of society. Therefore, the morally relevant facts for a Utilitarian are the consequences to all people impartially. In this case, they include the circulation of food, clothing, medicines, and the restoration of villages. Providing monetary aid ultimately produces the greatest balance of happiness over unhappiness for society. The Utilitarian argument for donating money is good because it provides calculable validation. In other words, the utility of the receivers is quantifiable and tangible (number of meals, hygiene kits, water tanks provided, number of homes rebuilt, etc. ). This tangibility clearly illustrates that the utility of the receiver exceeds the marginal cost to the giver and produces the greatest amount of happiness over unhappiness. Why the Utilitarian Argument is Stronger There is an epistemic problem that weakens the argument given by the Ethical Egoist. We do not know precisely what the consequences will be. We expect that the intangible benefits include self-satisfaction, enjoyment of giving, and happiness from providing financial aid, and we estimate that the costs consist of the actual donation payment and all related opportunity costs; however, we do not know exactly what the consequences will be and the extent of the results. It is, thus, difficult to gauge whether donating to charity is actually in the giverââ¬â¢s best self-interest exclusively because the associated costs may be very great (the giver may end up poorer or the donation-transaction process may be stressful; both situations would not be to his or her advantage). The immeasurability and intangibility of the benefits also weakens the argument. Ayn Rand, an Ethical Egoist, responds to this objection and asserts that it is completely moral and permissible to offer aid to others even when one does not anticipate any tangible return; ââ¬Å"personal reasons for offering aidââ¬âreasons consistent with oneââ¬â¢s values and oneââ¬â¢s pursuit of oneââ¬â¢s own lifeââ¬âare sufficient to justify the actâ⬠(Gordon Shannon, 10/16/2010). Rand says that personal reasons, such as values and pursuit of a flourishing life, are adequate to justify the act. We run, however, into a problem: just because we have a moral justification to give aid, does it mean we are morally required to give aid? Rand provides a moral justification, but not a moral mandate; this makes the argument put forth by Ethical Egoism weak. While Ethical Egoism provides a convincing argument and response to the objection, the Utilitarian argument is stronger because it buffers against the epistemic problem and provides quantitative, calculable validation. The problem of epistemology does not apply to or weaken the Utilitarian argument because we know what the consequences will be, based on present initiatives. Plan UK has provided cooked meals to over 250,000 people, shelter for 230,000, water tanks, hygiene kits, and medicines for thousands of families (Plan UK). We know how the money will benefit the Pakistani villagers and we can quantify the amount of happiness and good that entails the act of giving aid to others. To summarize: Ethical Egoism says that we ought to pursue our own self-interests exclusively. The morally right act is the one that benefits the self. There is, however, an epistemic problem. We do not know what the consequences will be or the extent of these outcomes. Donating to charity may not benefit the self. Utilitarianism, however, avoids the problem of epistemology and immeasurability. Therefore, Utilitarianism is the stronger argument. Conclusion In this paper, I have presented the theories of Ethical Egoism and Utilitarianism, delved into the morally relevant facts, and reflected on why each argument is good. I illustrated why Utilitarianism is stronger by appealing to a weakness of Ethical Egoism. Thus, the Utilitarian perspective that we have a moral duty to donate money to help Pakistani villagers is a better argument.
Indias Manufacturing Sector Policy Framework
Indias Manufacturing Sector Policy Framework CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION On August 15, 2014, Prime Minister NarendraModi, in his maiden Independence Day speech, reached out to companies around the world to ââ¬ËCome, Make in Indiaââ¬â¢. He further said ââ¬ËSell in any country of the world but manufacture here. We have got skill, talent, discipline, and determination to do somethingââ¬â¢. The key features under ââ¬ËMake in Indiaââ¬â¢ Cut red Tapism Spurforeign INVESTMENT Better skill up gradation Zero-defect products with Zero- (negative) effect on environment Innovation Enhance skill development Protect intellectual property Built best in class infrastructure According to MrNarendraModi, we Indians should take FDI as ââ¬Ë First Develop Indiaââ¬â¢ and the global investors should consider it as ââ¬ËForeign Direct Investmentââ¬â¢ Making India a manufacturing hub The Government has identified 25 key sectors in which the country has the potential of becoming world leader some of them these include: .chemicals, automobiles, pharmaceuticals, textiles, ports, leather hospitality mining, bio-technology etc etc, . The new government has taken up certain initiatives to brace the manufacturing sector in particular, some of which are- Applying for Industrial License and Industrial Entrepreneur Memorandum has been made online e-Biz website De-Licensing has been done on number of Defence items Industrial license validity has been extended to three years The Government has now decided to amend a number of labour laws in order to provide flexibility in working hours and increase intake of apprentices for job training To simplify the regulatory environment an Advisory has been sent to all departmentswhich includes- filing of all returns in a unified form online No inspection will take place without the approval of the Head of the Department CHAPTER 2: POLICIES TAKEN UP BY THE GOVERNMENT ââ¬ËMake in Indiaââ¬â¢ has focused on the development of 25 sectors out of which some are as follows:- AUTOMOBILES: 100% FDI is allowed through automatic route subject to all the applicable laws and regulations. Imports are exempted from licensing and approvals. Offering rebate on RD expenditure in order to encourage RD. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY: To make business easier new measures are helping reduce complexity, accelerate speed and transperancy Validity of Industrial license has been extended up to three years Maintenance of the registers by the business has to be replaced with a single electronic register LEATHER: Major emphasis has been given to skill development through Indian Leather Development Program Training has been imparted to 51,216 youth in the last 100 days Further planning has been done to train 1,44,000 youth per annum For augmentation of training infrastructure, funds have been released for establishment of 4 new branches of Footwear Design and Development Institute in Hyderabad, Patna, Punjab and Gujarat. CONSTRUCTION: Live Project taken up by the Government: DELHI-MUMBAI INDUSTRIAL CORRIDOR (DMIC) The objective of this project is to increase the share in the GDP of the manufacturing sector of our country and to create smart. The plan is to develop cities and residential townships along the Dedicated Railway Freight Corridor (DFC). The aim of the program is to create a world-class infrastructure, good convenient public transport, power management and an efficient water management system.. Around Twenty four manufacturing cities are engaged in the project. In the first phase of the plan, seven cities have been developed each in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat, Haryana, Rajasthan, and two in Maharashtra. These cities will provide vast opportunities for the investors internationally and domestically. The initial phase will be completed by 2019.New DMIC Cities will help meet pressure of urbanization and will take India towards economic growth in the next 20 -30 years. The project aims at double employment potential, triple industrial output and exports in the next seven to nine years. KEY SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT CONCEPTS UNDER THE PROJECT- Recycling and reuse of solid waste and water. Use of renewable leading to energy sufficiency Conservation of sensitive natural environment . Transformation of existing villages into smart cities CHAPTER 3: SCHEME ANALYSIS AND RECOMMENDATION HURDLES ARISING IN THE WAY OF THE SCHEME The term ââ¬Ëextremely progressiveââ¬â¢ for the Make In India campaign would not only help in making india a manufacturing hub but also make economic growth more inclusive. But for the campaign to succeed, hurdles like environmental clearances, infrastructure bottlenecks and unfriendly tax regimes are important to be removed in order to create a clear leveled field for the manufacturing in the country. other than these certain other points like: Energy shortages Skilled resources Trained workers Skilled professionals Land problems Ambiguous tax laws Excessively complicated labor laws Have kept a large scale of private investors away from investing. The lack of cooperation between the state and the federal governments is another reason as to why investors have lost faith. A lot of suppliers as well as auto manufacturers face problems in completing paperworkââ¬â¢s and in the obtaining of business permits required for acquisition of business property. Complicated processes like acquiring of a plant or construction permits has caused various hindrances and therefore making it more inconvenient for the businessmen The very complicated irregular network of the domestic tax system that varies from state to state has taken away the ease of operating business in India and are therefore impending investments in India. CORRECTIVE MEASURES TO MAKE THE SCHEME SUCCESSFUL For a long time india was more dependent on the service sector which made it neglect the manufacturing sector to a great extent. The Make In India scheme is a welcoming move in this context. It will help india gain momentum to become the manufacturing powerhouse. This scheme will enhance the employment opportunities.it will provide various employements to the large pool of the young workers who join in the labour force every year. their employment will generate income which will then increase the purchasing power and the demands on the other hand for the manufactured goods The campaign will ensure stronger bilateral ties among the continents and the countries as it highlights global vision. It will mutually benefit the countries in global exchange of the expertise and talents. But in order to achieve this certain changes have to be made and are necessary. They are as under In order to boost the manufacturing sector of the country through this scheme the supply base of component and the material needs to be improved, acceleration in demand .challenges like provision of skilled manpower , removal of regulatory and procedural formalities , infrastructe development also have to be over powered. A fair and a more sorted out tax system is the immediate need for the successful implementation of the campaign. It is important to create a business friendly environment where it is important to gain the trust and the confidence of the investors It is important to bring labour reforms through skilling, which will bring more efficiency in the manufacturing process as a whole. The right execution of the project is of great importance at the state level itself. states will have to reform the laws even at the lower levels and facilitate implementation of policies and plans taken up by the centre. CHAPTER 4: CONCLUSION Make in India campaign is a Lions step towards making the country a destination for global manufacturing.ââ¬Ë Modi Governments push for manufacturing sector in India is a laudable idea especially during the time when a number of big companies are finding an alternative to China due to its increasing cost Manufacturing offers a better way to employ millions of workers , providing a stable source of foreign currency, and create a smooth and a reliable path for development. Manufacturing will enhance countrys macro-economicstability besides creating jobs.. Better infrastructure and easier regulations, especially around labour, will help propel manufacturing, The timing is perfect for India. Labour costs are rising in China; Japanese firms are shifting production from China because of military tensions; and the rupee has fallen, making Indian workers more competitive. According to what we have researched, we think that it will be a great success as projects like these are needed today and any such step can surely bring success and development in our economy. The Make in India policy will act as a first reference point on aspects of regulatory and policy issues for the foreign investors and assist them in obtaining regulatory clearances. Now sooner the Competitiveness of manufacturing will now be removed but India will become one of the most competitive manufacturing countries in the world. Mr. Modi is working hard towards this project and is dedicated enough to take it through. He has built a certain kind of trust and confidence in peopleââ¬â¢s mind which can further encourage him to make this project a success. Modi has sought to inject a new optimism among the businesses and assured them that the investors will be treated with a lot of trust. India is becoming accustomed to Modiââ¬â¢s symbolic gestures. He has established himself as a tough politician who expects ministers and bureaucrats to turn up for work on time, and actually take decisions, and keep files moving, so that these policies turns out into action. Clearly a man on a mission to make India work, he also wants to make the world realise itââ¬â¢s happening. Sitting at his desk in Gujarat, Mr Modi said that when he first took charge of the stateââ¬â¢s economy, ââ¬Å"I thought: the sky is the limit.â⬠A similar ambition today would serve India well.

Genealogy of Alfalfa :: Plants Environment Planting History Essays
Genealogy of Alfalfa In this paper on the genealogy of alfalfa I will begin by telling you about the background and history of alfalfa in the United States. Secondly, I will tell you about the different sources of alfalfa germplasm. Next, I will talk about different studies and experiments that have been done to diversify the breeds of alfalfa. Finally, I will tell you about the genetic makeup of alfalfa and what distinguishes it from other popular plants. Alfalfa otherwise known today as the ââ¬Å"Queen of Forageâ⬠is thought to have originated in Iran over 2,400 years ago. It was the only forage crop that was cultivated before recorded history therefore the history of its origin isnââ¬â¢t one-hundred percent accurate. The first attempt to grow alfalfa in the United States was recorded in Georgia in the year 1736. The introduction of alfalfa to California came first by Spanish settlers and later by Europeans. The Europeans were headed to California during the gold rush. They obtained alfalfa seed when sailing around South America. Alfalfa flourished in the western states because of its favorable climate. Because alfalfa has a good yield, is palatable, and has a high value of nutrition. Word spread and so did the planting. Alfalfa then spread eastward to the Midwestern states. The distribution of alfalfa to states east of the Mississippi river was a failure due to its acid soils, plant disease, and humidity. Most of the genetic diversities of alfalfa come from nine germplasm sources. These nine germplasm sources are M. falcate, M. varia, Turkistan, Flemish, Chilean, Peruvian, Indian, and African. According to Barnes, Bingham, Murphy, Hunt, Beard, Skrdla, and Teubar ââ¬Å"M. falcata has orange-yellow flowers and an early fall dormancy therefore it is known to have a heavy first cutting and a light second cutting. It also has some bacterial wilt and foliar disease resistances. Strains were usually classified as M. varia because they had variegated flower colors and variable pod shapes. M. varia sources were introduced to South Dakota in 1907 as seed from a single hybrid plant found in Russia. These sources are winter hardy, more vigorous than M. falcata and are susceptible to bacterial wilt. Turkistan alfalfas have been described as poor seed producers, susceptible to leaf diseases, and resistant to many insects and crown and root disease. They vary in winter hardiness from moderately hardy to hardy.

The Male/Female Addiction Essay -- Soap Operas Wrestling Media Essays
The Male/Female Addiction I know what you are all thinking, but no I'm not writing about sex. Actually, my subject is far from it. Ever since I was a young lad my mother forced me to watch Guiding Light, a classic soap opera currently in its thirty-eighth season. Then one day I saw some men, or should I say finely tuned athletic machines, running around the "squared circle" literally beating the crap out of each other. I had discovered my newfound love, the World Wrestling Federation, more commonly know as the WWF. I have fond memories of lying on my bed on Sunday morning thinking of ways to convince my mother that I was sick so I could stay home from church and watch wrestling. Needless to say, wrestling may have dominated my life, but Guiding Light still had a grasp on a corner of my heart. Professional wrestling is the male equivalency of female-orientated soap operas. Both professional wrestling and soap operas share similar plot constructions by forming groups of family and/or friends that share the longing to reach a particular goal by one-upping their enemies. On Guiding Light, parallel groups consisting of the Spauldings and the Lewises are constantly plotting to undermine and thereby eliminate the other from being the cities number one power. Both families consider themselves to be far superior to each other and are constantly wrestling, no pun intended, for the most power and control over Springfield. The Spalding mansion looms elegantly on the hill, its stark white pillars framing the very confines of its vast contents. The manicured green lawn and professionally landscaped grounds helps to prepare the caller for the pretentious, cavalier attitude of its occupants. Reeking of old money, they are raised by nannies... ...he same goes for professional wrestling and its core characters. In an apparent effort to mirror real life, the classic evil characters tend not to change their spots and the upstanding, integrity-based citizens of the community are expected to attempt to persevere against this predictable, on going onslaught of assailants. Ultimately, once all of the elements are explored it is easy to see that soap operas and professional wrestling have much more in common than meets the eye. Soap Operas and professional wrestling share similar plot constructions, qualifications for "actors," fan bases, and are easily picked up when you miss an episode. This is why professional wrestling is the male equivalency to female-oriented soap operas.I would like to see a more sophisticated reiteration of this claim of fact. At lease an attempt to find different words would be helpful.
Holes Essay- Fate V/S Free Will
Holes Essay- Fate v/s Free Will Redemption? Destiny? ââ¬Å"Holesâ⬠(by Louis Sachar) is an engrossing novel that revolves around these. In fact, everything, for whatever the reason might be, seems to line up, linking many generations and histories together through ââ¬Å"Stanley Yelnats IVâ⬠, the protagonist. Nevertheless, he doesnââ¬â¢t know about it! Nor does he know that his endeavors have actually reformed him into a better person. This essay will now explore and examine how Stanley, unaware of what he was actually doing, set things right and how this changed him from a mousy to a confident character. The reader will discover how Stanley gets rid of a curseâ⬠¦a curse put on the Yelnats which completely eliminates their chances of making a fortune, in fact, is believed to be the reason they face such problems. Moreover, this ââ¬Å"redemptionâ⬠results in many worthy implications. In addition, the reader will also acquire how Stanley re-unites Zero and his mi ssing motherâ⬠¦ o, how does our environment affect us? Does it make us who we are? Does it change us? The entire Yelnats family struggled and suffered heavily, supposedly, due to a curse put on them by a one-legged gypsy, Madame Zeroni. An old, Egyptian woman, Madame Zeroni reluctantly provided Stanleyââ¬â¢s great-great grandfather, Elya Yelnats, with a piglet, to get the love of his life, Myra Menke. As her father was already in talks with Igor Barkov, who offered an enormous pig, he demanded something similar. Thus, Madame Zeroni told Elya to carry the piglet up the mountain where water ran uphill, make him drink that water and sing to it, every day. While it would grow, he would get stronger and tougher too. She, however, had strictly warned him to come back for her, to carry her up the mountain, let her drink from the same water and sing to her, otherwise, ââ¬Å"He and all his descendants would be cursed for eternity. â⬠Being a fifteen-year old, Elya did not take th is very seriously and forgot about the assurance he had given Madame Zeroni. It only struck him whilst he was on the way to America, dazed and frustrated on how Myra couldnââ¬â¢t make the obvious decision of choosing him against Igor; knowing what a foul man he was when their pigs weighed the same. Then onwards, the Yelnats were cursed. They always seemed to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. Bad luck seemed to follow them everywhere. However, even though they had no luck at all, they always remained hopeful and persistent. In fact, Stanleyââ¬â¢s great-grandfather did make a fortune in the stock market but bad luck befell on him too.He lost everythingâ⬠¦he was robbed by one of the most feared outlaws in all the west, Kissinââ¬â¢ Kate Barlow and was left stranded in the middle of a desert where he found refuge on ââ¬Å"Godââ¬â¢s thumb. â⬠However, Stanley wiped out the curse when he carried Hector Zeroni (Zero), Madame Zeroniââ¬â¢s great-great-grandson u p a mountain, made him drink from the water and sang to him when they both ran away from Camp Green Lake; a juvenile detention center for boys and found refuge on ââ¬Å"Godââ¬â¢s thumbâ⬠, on an onion field (that belonged to Sam) just like Stanleyââ¬â¢s great-grandfather did.Apparently, Madame Zeroniââ¬â¢s wish had just been fulfilled indirectly. As Stanley had heard a lot about his great-grandfather finding refuge on ââ¬Å"Godââ¬â¢s thumbâ⬠, when he saw a figure as such he was desperate to know about it and thought that could be a possibility where he and Zero could find refuge. Therefore, they climbed the mountain in the first place. Soon, however, he had the responsibility to carry Zero up as well. Stanley was just helping a friend but he didnââ¬â¢t know doing this would be the end to his bad luck.It might even interest the reader that Stanleyââ¬â¢s father invented the cure to foot odor, something he had been trying to find for years, the day after th e great-great grandson of Elya Yelnats carried the great-great-grandson Madame Zeroni up the mountain. As a matter of fact, that is how Stanleyââ¬â¢s father hired an attorney for his son which resulted in him out of Camp. Moreover, Zero, too, was let out due to no claim of records. This, in turn, lead to the end to Camp Green Lake and the start to a Girlsââ¬â¢ Scout Camp. In addition, the land that had been in the Walker family for generations was snatched away. The Warden was in desperate need of money and had to sell the land. In fact, after over a hundred years, Green Lake finally experienced rain againâ⬠¦ all because of Stanley. Furthermore, Stanley also helped re-unite Zero and his motherâ⬠¦Zero wasnââ¬â¢t always an orphan. Nor was he always homeless. Being a single mother, things werenââ¬â¢t very easy for Zeroââ¬â¢s mum either. Sheââ¬â¢d often leave him behind and tell him to wait at particular places while he just played around with his stuffed toys; after all, she couldnââ¬â¢t take him with her every time, everywhere. One day, however, she didnââ¬â¢t come back. She was justâ⬠¦gone. Zero waited and waited and waited. He stayed at Laney Park for a month, was treated poorly by other visitors, slept in the playground tunnels and who knows what else but, never saw his mother again. However, things did change. When Stanley and Zero dug up rather discovered the buried fortune which had been robbed from Stanleyââ¬â¢s great-grandfather by Kissinââ¬â¢ Kate Barlow, Stanley proved to be a good friend. He shared this prosperity with Zero, thinking he deserved it equally. Their hard-work to find the treasure was worthwhile. It all was in millions- the jewels were actually less valuable than the stack of papers underneath which belonged to Stanleyââ¬â¢s great-grandfather. These consisted of stock certificates, deeds of trust and promissory notes. After all the taxes and legal fees, Stanley and Zero each received about a milli on dollars, enough for Zero to hire private investigators to find his mother. By the end of the novel, we see Zero with his mother, re-united, because of Stanley. Nevertheless, Stanley went through a lot during the time he spent at or after Camp Green Lake, which reformed him into a better person. His actions altered him from a mousy to a confident character. In fact, he also learned a lot about himself. Going through times good and bad, easy and difficult, rough and tough, testing and challenging, Stanley changed. The environment he was in got out the real Stanley. He built a lot upon his self-esteem and self-worth and valued his dignity, integrity and self-respect and was a lot more firm, resolute, spirited, confident and dauntless. Not only mentally, Stanley also changed physically. He was a lot more fit, much stronger and could stand up for himself. In fact, the only reasons he could carry Zero up the mountain, perhaps go through the entire journey were that he was physically and mentally fit- strong, determined, persistent, hopeful and courageous. He also understood his strengths. He realized that he wasnââ¬â¢t as rough as the other campers and was rather a very kind, gentle, generous, friendly and an optimistic boy. If he wasnââ¬â¢t such a character he would never have tried running away from Camp to look for Zero. He would never have tried going up the mountain, after all, he wasnââ¬â¢t certain at all if thereââ¬â¢d be food and water. He would never have tried going to look for the treasure again.Zero would never have been with him if he wasnââ¬â¢t so persistent at getting him out of Camp. Nobody would ever have checked his records. Zero would never have found his mother if Stanley wasnââ¬â¢t a good friend. In fact, none of this would have happened if it wasnââ¬â¢t for Stanley being so truthful. If he had just lied about the sneakers falling on his head from the sky, he would never have gone to Camp Green Lake, but then he would never have end up with such luxuries. He got an opportunity to develop upon his strengths and mend his weaknesses. All in all, this experience metamorphosed Stanley into the real Stanley.Ultimately, we get the answers to ââ¬Å"Does your environment make you ââ¬Å"youâ⬠? Does it change you? â⬠Certainlyâ⬠¦. it is the environment that affects our actions which make us who we are, which creates our destiny. Therefore, Destiny seems to be about people making decisions to do what they know or think is right. ââ¬Å"Holesâ⬠is a novel, just like a jigsaw puzzle. At first, you have no idea how these little pieces will fit and make any sense and by the end, it is all so perfect. In ââ¬Å"Holesâ⬠, the whole idea on Destiny and Redemption is very well expressed. It was Stanley who created his destiny by his actions. His redemptions created the future of everyone related. Stanleyââ¬â¢s endeavors made him who he was. They changed his personality for good. These actions t hen resulted into many worthy implications. However, our actions may not always result in consequences in our favor. For example, Kate Barlowââ¬â¢s life completely drifted from being what it was. Her action of falling in love with Sam resulted in a horrific tragedy and a terrible injustice with a miserable life ahead. It changed her from being an ordinary teacher to one of the most feared outlaws in the entire West. Thus, Redemption and Destiny go hand in hand. Fate is the result to Free Will!
